Flood waters linger in Mississippi

Residents eager to put behind a historic flood that submerged much of Vicksburg face a long and slow goodbye, forecasters said Friday, predicting that the river could remain out of its banks until at least mid-June. The Mississippi River is not expected to return to its 43-foot flood stage in Vicksburg until after June 14, which is 46 days after it climbed out of its banks, said Amanda Roberts, a National Weather Service hydrologist said.
It crested at 57.1 feet Thursday, and the weather service predicts the crest will hold through at least Saturday morning in Vicksburg.
The flood also claimed the first victim in the state -- Vicksburg resident Walter Cook -- who died after being pulled from floodwaters, according to the Warren County coroner, who said Thursday it's not clear how Cook ended up in them.

seven dead in severe storms

Atlanta (CNN) -- At least seven people in Oklahoma and Arkansas have died as the result of a powerful line of storms now pushing into the Southeast, authorities said Friday.
The system posed the greatest threat Friday to parts of Alabama and Mississippi, where forecasters warned of possible tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds. Forecasters said severe weather was possible Friday afternoon across northern Mississippi and Alabama and into central Tennessee.
The storm tore through parts of the Midwest on Thursday, leaving a trail of downed trees and power lines, scattered cars and crushed homes as it moved east. It killed two people in the southeastern Oklahoma city of Tushka, where authorities say a tornado touched down Thursday night. It also left five dead when trees fell on homes in four separate Arkansas incidents, authorities said.

Firefighter Kenichi Suzuki left his family to close a tsunami wall after last week's earthquake. It's a decision he now regrets -- returning to the ruins of his town, he discovers that his entire family is gone

In chapter 12 Hiram gets a subpoena to go to court in the summer. Then Hiram shows his grandpa and his grandpa does not like the subpoena or all the conflict going on. And Naomi tells Hiram not to go to court but Hiram could not think. I think Hiram should make his own choice if he wants to go to court or not.

Deaths of baby dolphins worry scientists

Baby bottlenose dolphins are washing up dead in record numbers on the shores of Alabama and Mississippi, alarming scientists and a federal agency charged with monitoring the health of the Gulf of Mexico. At least 24 baby dolphins have washed up on the shores of the two states since the beginning of the year -- more than ten times the normal rate. Also, six older dolphins died.I think this is weird on how all these things are dying first the black birds and now baby dolphins.
